/Art Galleries/Edwin Rojas![]() Edwin Rojas was born in Valparaiso, Chile. He is currently a professor in the Art Department of the University of Playa Ancha, Valparaiso where he holds a position as senior lecturer in the discipline of painting.
A master of technique who skillfully handles glazes and has a deep knowledge of colour, he materialises his works, clustered with figures, by means of an oneiric play which fantasy has the leading role. His characters generally possess enigmatic faces that seduce us and invite us to share the magic world that he presents to us. In his works, objects and settings become involved in playful and imaginary situations, and are treated with a fine sense of humour that eludes anything that might be anguishing. In the course of his artistic career, Edwin Rojas has presented more than two hundred exhibitions, both in Chile and abroad in Mexico, the U.S.A., El Salvador and Argentina among other countries. He has been the recipient of numerous prizes, among them, the Audiences Award at the Neo-Art Competition (2001), a Recognition from the State of Rhode Island, U.S.A. (1999), First National Competition of Civil Aviation, Chile (1996), National Prize for Most Promising Young Artist, Valparaiso, Chile (1996) and First Prize, Van Gogh Centennial, Chile (1990). Among the scholarships he obtained, mention may be made of the one granted by the Organisation of American States, Mexico (1993-1995), Paris Scholarship, France (2000). He participated with great success in Art Miami ’97 and in the 2002 ArteBa Fair in Buenos Aires. He had his most recent solo show at Praxis-Chile, the gallery that currently represents him Artist's Work |
