/Art Galleries/Jimmy Lawlor![]() Jimmy Lawlor originally from Wexford now resides in Mayo with his wife and two daughters. His daughters feature a lot in his work. He has a background in Illustration and has exhibited throughout galleries in Ireland since the late nineties. He now works from his studio, at home. He has a passion for his art and takes from his surroundings a rural feeling that is distinctly his own interpretation, and distinctly Irish.
There’s just something about the light that captures peoples attention. There’s a familiarity about the place that people recognise, and there’s a humour about the characters that are typically found in every town in Ireland. He enjoys that people can have fun with this art. It’s refreshing to hear the chuckles in a gallery, as people see something in the work that reminds them of some place or some one, and on closer examination of the work, you have to appreciate the precision and skill of this artist. His work has been featured in many of the magazines including ‘Image’ and Upstairs Downstairs’. People fascinate him; he loves that ‘lived in’ feeling in people’s faces, their honesty and charm, and the sparkle in their eye. Artist's Work |
