What is En Primeur?
En Primeur in the simplest terms is buying wine while it is still in the barrel in Bordeaux. The campaign begins when the prices are released from the producers approximately six months after the harvest. It is then purchased by the consumer through Greenacres and two years later it arrives in Ireland, bottled and stored.

To buy wine En Primeur, there are two separate payments involved. The first is to secure an order which is the En Primeur list price and is payable within 14 days of ordering. The second payment is the duty, insurance and transport from France to the warehouse in Ireland, which is charged at approximately €42.00 per case and also the V.A.T. at 21.5% which is due on the wines, all of which are paid when it arrives in Ireland. We also offer storage facilities at our warehouse outside Wexford at an annual charge of €12.00 + V.A.T. The En Primeur list prices are for one case of twelve 75cl bottles but wine can also be bought in half bottles, magnums and jeroboams at an extra cost.

En Primeur means that customers can buy the finest wine from specialist chateau while making huge savings at the same time. For example, wine from the now famous 2000 vintage, is trading up to four times the price it was first released at En Primeur in 2001. Over the years Greenacres has established a very large and ever increasing customer following. We have also found that our existing customers continue to deal with us year after year. When buying En Primeur one can be confident in the knowledge that from the time wine is purchased from us, to the time it arrives in Ireland, it is being stored properly and the correct procedures are being followed to ensure its optimum condition.
